PROGRAM FAQ

1. Who is DC Way?

DC Way is a Capitol Hill-based recreational soccer club dedicated to providing an interactive and friendly environment for all children while teaching vital leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship skills. We started as an after-school soccer program in 2013, but after overwhelming interest from parents who saw their children's progress in the program, our club has grown to include Summer Camp, Brazilian Way Camp, Capitol Hill League, After-School Programs, Kids Academy, Weekly Skills Clinics, Private Lessons, Soccer Birthday Party, and much more. Our business centers around providing an interactive and friendly environment in the sport of soccer while teaching vital leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship skills.

2. What PROGRAMS do you offer?

3. Will my child learn new skills?

This depends on your player’s experience and current skill level. We offer a new topic, skill set, and life lessons in each class to build a foundation for our players to continually progress as both soccer players and people. Within our soccer programs, children learn visual learning and fundamentals of soccer like passing, receiving, playing small-sided games, and developing vital motor skills. We also focus on teaching life skills one can learn from sports such, as emotional intelligence, responsibility, healthy habits, self-confidence, and many others. By covering all aspects of soccer – mental and physical – our players improve immensely in each class.

4. What skills do your classes help to develop?

Our goal is to develop the physical, mental, and technical skills of every child!

  • Physical skills such as speed, strength, balance, agility, and more.

  • Mental skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, emotional intelligence, work ethic, and integrity.

  • Technical skills such as ball control, dribbling, passing, crossing, shooting, ways of catching, and more.

5. What should my child wear? Should they bring anything with them?

Players 6 years or older are encouraged to wear shin guards and soccer cleats to training. Players younger than 6 years should wear tennis / athletic shoes (cleats are not needed). We encourage all participants to bring plenty of water. Camp participants should also bring an afternoon snack.

6. What level of playing experience should my child have?

We have programs for every player. DC Way’s camps, Kids Academy, After-School Programs, and Private Lessons are appropriate for all levels of players. If you want to take your child’s skills to the next level, we recommend considering the Weekly Skills Clinics, Goalkeeping School, and Capitol Hill League.

7. Who is the Head Coach?

Founder and Program Director Denis C. Lucky comes from a long tradition of soccer. He holds a National Soccer Coaching License for the ages 8-12 years old and a Coerver Coaching Youth Diploma. He believes that a focus on continuous self-development is key to better-helping players. Therefore, he regularly attends seminars to improve his coaching skills. Lastly, Denis was VOTED the Best Sports Coach for the years 2016 and 2017 by the Washington City Paper!
