DC Way’s Junior Assistant position is where young enthusiasts, aged 14-15, can step into a crucial role, contributing to the seamless operations of our diverse soccer sessions. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the soccer scene, the Junior Assistant position is your gateway to taking on responsibilities essential to becoming a DC Way Coach.

Junior Assistants have the added advantage of earning volunteer hours for school. We understand the importance of community engagement and academic recognition, and we encourage our Junior Assistants to leverage their passion for soccer to contribute to their personal and intellectual growth. In addition to gaining volunteer hours, this is a paid position.

Junior Assistants play a pivotal role in each session, serving as a voice of encouragement to players and campers, managing supplies, and even taking on refereeing responsibilities. This hands-on experience allows Junior Assistants to develop vital skills such as communication, confidence, and decisiveness.

As part of their development, Junior Assistants will have the valuable opportunity to learn from experienced coaches, further honing their skills and building upon the foundation established during their Counselor-in-Training program. This exposure prepares them for the advanced responsibilities of the Assistant Coach level.

As Junior Assistants, participants begin to master effective communication and leadership skills, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all campers and players. It’s a dynamic and engaging role providing a unique mentorship and practical experience.

Empowering Youth Through Soccer and Leadership

Youth Leadership Programs are designed to empower young individuals by cultivating their skills, confidence, and ability to lead in various settings. These programs provide a platform for youth to explore their interests, enhance their decision-making abilities, and develop essential life skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Through engaging workshops, hands-on projects, and mentorship opportunities, participants learn how to take initiative and inspire others, fostering a sense of responsibility and community engagement!

What do we offer at Junior Assistant program?

The Junior Assistant Program provides a hands-on opportunity for teens ages 14-15 to actively support DC Way’s soccer sessions. Participants take on key roles such as encouraging players, managing equipment, and refereeing games, developing essential skills like communication, confidence, and leadership along the way. Junior Assistants gain invaluable experience working alongside experienced coaches, preparing them for future leadership roles within DC Way.

Who can participate?

Teens aged 14-15 with a passion for soccer, whether new to the game or seasoned players, are welcome to join. No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to learn and make a positive impact!

Who are the coaches?

The DC Way coaches are a group of amazing men and women who have obtained a professional license to coach. We are truly proud to say that every member of our staff has exceptional personality traits and coaching skills such as a positive approach to coaching, honesty and fairness with players, a love for the game, a passion for teaching and instructing, and extensive knowledge of games, activities, and skills to develop players.

All of the DC Way coaches are certified soccer coaches with extensive experience working with children. Our coaches have all passed mandatory background checks, have at least two years of experience working with children, and have received First Aid training.

What are the expectations for Junior Assistants?

As a Junior Assistant in the program, you will be expected to:

  • Foster a Positive Environment: Encourage players and campers by maintaining a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Manage Session Supplies: Assist with organizing and managing equipment and supplies needed for various activities and sessions.
  • Referee Games: Take on refereeing responsibilities to ensure fair play and adherence to rules during games.
  • Develop Skills: Work on enhancing your communication, leadership, and decisiveness skills through hands-on experience and mentorship.
  • Contribute to Program Success: Play an active role in helping to create enjoyable and successful soccer experiences for all participants.

What are the benefits?

What should my child bring? What should my child wear?

Participants should bring a water bottle, a healthy snack, and any specific gear requested in the program welcome email. Comfortable athletic wear, preferably with soccer cleats and shin guards, is recommended for on-field activities.

How much does it cost?

Participation in the Junior Assistant Program is free, and students receive compensation for their time as part of this role.
