Empowering Youth Through Soccer and Leadership

Youth Leadership Programs are designed to empower young individuals by cultivating their skills, confidence, and ability to lead in various settings. These programs provide a platform for youth to explore their interests, enhance their decision-making abilities, and develop essential life skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

What do we offer at Counselor-in-Training?

Our CIT program offers young teens an immersive experience in soccer and leadership by working closely with coaches, assisting in soccer sessions, and supporting younger players. CITs get a behind-the-scenes look at DC Way’s programs, learning how to lead games, engage with participants, and contribute to creating a positive and fun environment.

Who can participate?

The CIT program is open to youth ages 12-13 who are excited to learn more about soccer, coaching, and teamwork. This program is perfect for young players looking to take on more responsibility and build foundational leadership skills in a fun, team-oriented setting.

Who are the coaches?

The DC Way coaches are a group of amazing men and women who have obtained a professional license to coach. We are truly proud to say that every member of our staff has exceptional personality traits and coaching skills such as a positive approach to coaching, honesty and fairness with players, a love for the game, a passion for teaching and instructing, and extensive knowledge of games, activities, and skills to develop players.

All of the DC Way coaches are certified soccer coaches with extensive experience working with children. Our coaches have all passed mandatory background checks, have at least two years of experience working with children, and have received First Aid training.

What are the expectations for Counselor-in-Training?

As a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) in the program, your expectations will include:

  • Assist Coaches: Support coaches during soccer sessions by helping to organize activities and manage groups of younger players.
  • Engage with Players: Actively interact with students, encouraging them to participate, have fun, and develop their skills.
  • Learn and Observe: Gain insights into how soccer sessions are structured and delivered, learning essential coaching techniques and strategies.
  • Foster Teamwork: Promote teamwork and positive sportsmanship among players, serving as a role model for younger participants.
  • Take Initiative: Be proactive in contributing to the program’s atmosphere, ensuring that it remains fun, safe, and engaging for all involved.

Your role as a CIT is vital in creating a positive environment for campers while developing your leadership and teamwork skills.

What are the benefits?

What should my child bring? What should my child wear?

Participants should bring a water bottle, a healthy snack, and any specific gear requested in the program welcome email. Comfortable athletic wear, preferably with soccer cleats and shin guards, is recommended for on-field activities.
